In April 2019 I exhibited a series of miniature oil paintings made in response to animals depicted in ‘Persian’ miniatures of the 14th and 15th centuries. Very pleased that ‘Gaze’ was selected by Dr Ryya Bread for ExLibris group show at Tremenheere gallery, Gulval, Cornwall. Whilst reading Derrida’s lecture ‘The animal that therefore I am’ at college I came across numerous references to the gaze of animals, in Derrida’s case the cat, but here I have depicted a chimp.
